Series of Readings from Islanders Slated for May and June

May 19th, 2016  |  Published in Blog, Events

Colorado author Teow Lim Goh blends fact and fiction, politics and intimacy in her chronicle of a forgotten episode in American history. Join Teow Lim Goh at any of the following events listed below to hear poems from her moving new collection of poetry Islanders. You can pick up a copy of Goh’s debut collection on our website.

Published exclusively on our press website in May, Islanders is an imagining of some of the most important and heartbreaking stories in history,  of Chinese immigrant women who were detained for years between 1910 and 1940 at the Angel Island Immigration Station in San Francisco, California. Many of the poems scrawled on the walls of the men’s barracks have been recorded and preserved. The words the women wrote were lost in a fire. Islanders also tells the stories of their families on shore, the staff at Angel Island, and the 1877 San Francisco Chinatown Riot.

You can read more about the collection here. Islanders will also be available from booksellers on July 12.
