Conundrum Press

About

Conundrum Press publishes fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction, focusing primarily on authors who live in the Rocky Mountain region. We want to add provocative and thoughtful work to our catalog, and develop strong relationships with our authors.

Successful publishing requires collaboration, and is changing quickly. Along with these changes come new opportunities to connect with readers face-to-face, as well as across the globe. We are sensitive to the potential of ebooks, social networks, and conversations with other publishers, authors, and digital communities. To ignore these changes is to miss out on chances to introduce new audiences to deserving works.

We’re proud of the press’s eclectic catalog of poetry. Now we’re ready to add new titles and a new venue for authors in our region.

History

Conundrum Press was founded by poet/teacher/publisher David Rothman in the late 1990s. He wanted to provide a “regional publishing house to provide writers a collecive voice.” David published a number of beautiful poetry collections during his years of owning the press, which include:

David Rothman’s own The Elephant’s Chiropractor, which was a finalist for the 1999 Colorado Book Award; The Geography of Hope: Poets of Colorado’s Western Slope, featuring twelve regional poets; James Tipton’s Letters from a Stranger, winner of the 1999 Colorado Book Award; and Mark Todd’s Wire Song. It also published Burton Raffel’s Beethoven in Denver and Other Poems, and Zsolt’sLiving, Loving, and Other Heresies.

Today

In 2011, Conundrum press was acquired by Samizdat Group, LLC, owned by Caleb Seeling. Conundrum’s Editorial Director is Sonya Unrein.

While Samizdat Creative does include a high-end self-publishing entity, Conundrum Press is a stand-alone, traditional model literary press.

Future plans include a Rocky Mountain Poetry Series, the details of which are forthcoming, and a philanthropic plan to support literary endeavors from sales of our books.
